چکیده
OF THE DISSERTATION Composition of Image Analysis Processes through Object-Centered Hierarchical Planning by Leiguang Gong, Ph.D. Dissertation Director: Professor Casimir A. Kulikowski The present thesis describes a new approach to biomedical image interpretation | the knowledge-based composition of image analysis processes through object-centered hierarchical planning. Its computer implementation in the VISIPLAN system has been tested on di erent image analysis tasks using Magnetic Resonance (MR) scans. The approach has been shown to be exible and e ective in handling a reasonably broad class of image analysis problems. The new approach de nes the problem of composing image analysis processes primarily as that of detecting a sequence of reference objects to establish the context for segmentation and recognition of a goal object at the highest level of problem solving. At a lower level it de nes the composition of speci c analysis processes, which are scheduled for each of the objects, together with appropriate processing tasks and data allocations. The present work provides a computer representation and framework for the overall composition of image analysis processes. A new approach has also been developed for pre-planning as a rst phase of the overall composition process, which includes a new method for systematically selecting edge-de ning thresholds for local-binary segmentation. In addition, an important component of the processing method library in VISIPLAN

Object-Based Classification of UltraCamD Imagery for Identification of Tree Species in the Mixed Planted Forest
This study is a contribution to assess the high resolution digital aerial imagery for semi-automatic analysis of tree species identification. To maximize the benefit of such data, the object-based classification was conducted in a mixed forest plantation. Two subsets of an UltraCam D image were geometrically corrected using aero-triangulation method. Some appropriate transformations were perfor...
متن کاملComposing Nested Web Processes Using Hierarchical Semi-Markov Decision Processes
Many methods proposed for automated composition of Web processes use classical AI planning approaches such as rulebased planning, PDDL, and HTN planning. Web processes generated by classical planning methods suffer from the assumption of deterministic behavior of Web services and do not take into account fundamental QoS issues like service reliability and response time. In this paper, we propos...
متن کاملObject-Oriented Method for Automatic Extraction of Road from High Resolution Satellite Images
As the information carried in a high spatial resolution image is not represented by single pixels but by meaningful image objects, which include the association of multiple pixels and their mutual relations, the object based method has become one of the most commonly used strategies for the processing of high resolution imagery. This processing comprises two fundamental and critical steps towar...
متن کاملObject-Based Approach for Multi-Scale Mangrove Composition Mapping Using Multi-Resolution Image Datasets
Providing accurate maps of mangroves, where the spatial scales of the mapped features correspond to the ecological structures and processes, as opposed to pixel sizes and mapping approaches, is a major challenge for remote sensing. This study developed and evaluated an object-based approach to understand what types of mangrove information can be mapped using different image datasets (Landsat TM...
متن کاملRobust Method for E-Maximization and Hierarchical Clustering of Image Classification
We developed a new semi-supervised EM-like algorithm that is given the set of objects present in eachtraining image, but does not know which regions correspond to which objects. We have tested thealgorithm on a dataset of 860 hand-labeled color images using only color and texture features, and theresults show that our EM variant is able to break the symmetry in the initial solution. We compared...
